This is one of the two most difficult trophies to earn in the game. In battle mode there are 20 unique modes that provide different conditions to every fight in that particular mode. For the majority of these modes the A.I. will increase in difficulty gradually, starting off on an easy difficulty and reaching near max difficulty in some modes.
At the beginning of the game only 5 of the modes will be playable, the rest will need to be unlocked in the archives using the access cards that you earn while leveling up. It would be better to not attempt this until you have 15 access cards in order to unlock all of the modes. You will have enough cards to unlock every mode by the time you reach level 12 if you choose to unlock them all early on.
The good news is, with certain battles you can retry as many times as you like if you are defeated, so try to take advantage of that if you need it.
You should also keep in mind that every time you are defeated in a fight which allows you to retry at the same opponent, the A.I. becomes slightly easier with each retry, so this could also be used to your advantage if you're struggling with certain modes.
These combos will be your saving grace while working towards this trophy so learn them until you can perform them in your sleep, because you'll be using them... a lot, especially in the later and more difficult modes.
2. Heroes Only - Can you stand against the might of the world's most powerful heroes?

You should also keep in mind that every time you are defeated in a fight which allows you to retry at the same opponent, the A.I. becomes slightly easier with each retry, so this could also be used to your advantage if you're struggling with certain modes.
Important Combos
Before you even attempt to earn this trophy, It is highly recommended that you go into practice mode and become familiar with these two combos:Doomsday Combo (Jump, +, ,,, ,,, )
Solomon Grundy Combo ( ,,,, +, + , ,,, ,,, ,, )
These combos will be your saving grace while working towards this trophy so learn them until you can perform them in your sleep, because you'll be using them... a lot, especially in the later and more difficult modes.
Rundown Of Each Mode
1. Classic - Defeat a series of randomly chosen heroes & villains set at your desired difficulty level.- Difficulty - Very Easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Any
- A very easy mode, just select any character, Very easy difficulty and the A.I. will not put up any fight what-so-ever. You will complete this while working towards the Top Rung trophy.
- Difficulty - Easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- For this mode your only opponents will be the heroes of the game (Batman, Superman etc..). You will only have 8 opponents to fight and the opponents themselves won't be too difficult and shouldn't give you any trouble. If you happen to be defeated you can simply retry at the same opponent and try again. This would be a great place to practice the Doomsday combo if you feel like you need to.
- Difficulty - Easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This mode is similar to the previous one except this time your opponents will be the villains of the game chosen at random (The Joker, Doomsday, Bane etc..). The same rules apply here, 8 opponents with overall easy A.I. difficulty and the opportunity to retry at the same opponent if you're defeated. This is another good opportunity to practice the Doomsday combo for later use.
- Difficulty - Easy/Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- In this mode you have to defeat 10 opponents while being slowly drained of your health for the duration of each fight. This is a pretty easy mode, as the loss of health itself is not very noticeable as it drains quite slowly and the A.I. isn't too difficult in this one. Treat this as a normal arcade ladder, use Doomsday and you should have no trouble if you defeat each opponent quickly.
- Difficulty - Medium/Hard
Being defeated will send you back to the beginning
Best character to use - Doomsday - This is quite a difficult mode, you'll have to defeat 10 opponents with a single health meter without losing a match. You regain a small portion of health after each fight for fulfilling certain requirements in the fight, for example using an interactive object or using your super move. The amount of health you can regain is as follows:
- Match Win - 25%
- Use an interactable - 10%
- Win a clash - 10%
- Use a super move - 10%
- Land a level transition - 10%
- Land a combo of 20% or more damage - 10%
- Health Bonus - Between 35% - 55%
- You'll definitely either want to use Doomsday or Solomon Grundy for this and stay as aggressive as possible. What makes this difficult is the somewhat aggressive A.I. toward the end which will block more often and begin to hit you with larger combos to deal more damage, but keep trying and eventually you'll complete this.
- Difficulty - Easy/Medium
- Can restart on the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - N/A
- For this mode you have to defeat 10 opponents in a standard arcade ladder, the catch to this one is that you have to be the same character as your opponent with no option of switching. So for example if you're fighting Ares, you'll have to be Ares and so on.. This one is fairly self-explanatory, the A.I. is on a fairly low difficulty in this mode and at this point you should have at least a grasp of each character's move set, so this shouldn't be very troublesome.
- Difficulty - Easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- In this mode you have your standard 10 opponent ladder but you will be given a random buff or de-buff for each fight. Most of the buffs don't really do much to affect the gameplay and some even give you an advantage so you mostly don't need to pay them any attention. They'll range between faster movement to damage increases etc.. But just use the Doomsday combo throughout and it should be easy to complete.
- Difficulty - Very easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This is arguably the easiest mode to complete with Doomsday. You have to defeat 10 opponents as usual but this time you will have an unlimited super meter but super moves will be disabled and unusable throughout. The A.I. rarely uses this to their advantage so you can keep spamming meter burn moves and the usual Doomsday combo for every opponent for massive damage until it is complete. Very simple.
- Difficulty - Easy/Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Aquaman
- For this mode you need to fight your standard 10 opponents but this time you'll need to complete a combo requirement which will be displayed on the left of the screen. It will start off simple and get progressively harder as you progress. for example you could get something like "Perform four 8 hit combos" in the later fights. Failure to do so before defeating your enemy will force you into retrying the same opponent.
- The best character to use for this is Aquaman, simply because his meter burn Trident Rush (,,,) can give you a 12 hit combo and fulfill all of the requirements given to you with ease. All you'll need to do is to hit your opponent with that move as many times as you'll need to complete the objective and then finish them off. The A.I. shouldn't be too difficult so with Aquaman you should have no trouble with this.
- Difficulty - Easy
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This mode is a lot easier than it sounds if you're using Doomsday. In this mode you'll be fighting 6 opponents, there will be a timer on the left of the screen counting down and when it gets to 0 your opponent's health will be restored. Keep in mind it will not completely heal them, it will only restore the bar of health that they are currently using. If you've become consistent with using the Doomsday combo at this point then you should have no trouble with defeating them in 30 seconds, just be aggressive and fast and it should be completed with relative ease.
- Difficulty - Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- Again, this sounds more difficult than it really is. Another standard 10 player ladder, but in this mode you will only have 25% health for each match. The Doomsday combo again works great here, so just stay as aggressive as possible and don't let anyone touch you. This may become difficult in the later fights but remember that you can retry at the same opponent thankfully so after some trial error you should get it done.
- Difficulty - Easy/Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- In this mode you'll be fighting 6 opponents and you and your opponent will gain health after each hit that is landed. The amount of health that you will regain is very minimal compared to the amount your enemy regains so try not to get hit too much. The Doomsday combo again works well here, so keep the pressure on and stay aggressive.
- Difficulty - Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This mode will require you to defeat 8 opponents, each with a 2nd opponent with them ready to jump in when they are defeated. This mode can be difficult if you don't pay careful attention to your health in the later stages, but again you can retry from the same opponent if you're defeated so keep on the pressure with the Doomsday combo until you finish this.
- Difficulty - Medium/Hard
- Being defeated will send you back to the beginning
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This mode requires you to defeat 10 randomly chosen opponents within 2 minutes of in game time. This is another mode that is easier than it actually sounds, as using the Doomsday combo can defeat opponents with ease in around 15-20 seconds and each win grants you 3 seconds of extra time. You'll want to defeat the first 5 opponents quickly so you can have as much time as possible to be a little more strategic and tentative with the remaining and more difficult opponents. You know the drill by now, use the Doomsday combo consistently and quickly to complete this.
- Difficulty - Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - N/A
- For this mode you will need to defeat 10 opponents while switching characters at random after each fight. Thankfully the A.I. is on a low difficulty in this mode which compensates for the random characters. You should be familiar with each character at this point so perform your best combos to win until this challenge is complete.
- Difficulty - Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Doomsday
- This mode is relatively easy, you have to defeat 10 opponents, each within 30 seconds. You should have the Doomsday combo mastered by now so by using this you will have your opponents defeated well before 30 seconds despite the climb in the difficulty in the later stages. Keep using the combo until this mode is complete.
- Difficulty - Medium
- Being defeated will send you back to the beginning
- Best character to use - Solomon Grundy
- This mode requires you to defeat 10 opponents without losing a single match. This isn't too difficult if you've mastered the 2 combos in the supplied videos at this point and compared to "Survivor" your life bar will be restored to full at the end of each fight. The A.I. in this mode shouldn't be too challenging so spam the combos as much as you can to defeat all of the opponent and complete this mode.
- Difficulty - Extremely Hard
- Being defeated will send you back to the beginning
- Best Character to use - Solomon Grundy
- This mode is by far the most difficult to complete. You have to defeat 10 A.I. characters on the max difficulty without being defeated. The A.I. on max difficulty will take advantage of any opening it gets and will constantly punish you with big combos if given the opportunity, it will also counter your moves before you even make them at times. This may seem like an impossible task but there are ways around this to make it at least doable. Remember that Solomon Grundy combo I told you to learn? This is where that combo shines, as the majority of the characters have no answer for countering Solomon Grundy's swamp hands and you can take almost half a bar of health with each combo. The downside to using this combo is that 9 out of 10 times your opponent will initiate a clash to regain a small amount of health after their first health bar has been lost, so be prepared for that, it's a horrible feature that shouldn't be in the game but we have to deal with the cards we've been handed. If this happens in any of your attempts, DO NOT bet on the clash as you will usually lose and in turn lose your super meter, which could potentially cost you the match.
- Before you can even attempt a run on this mode, you need to be given a suitable set of fighters to play against, this might take a while as there are a few characters that you must avoid.
- Here are a list of characters you should try to avoid facing:
- Aquaman - He will counter your combo the majority of the time and will end your run with five or six 20 hit combos, which he will perform often. Either avoid him or try to make him your first opponent.
- Deathstroke - He is the cheapest fighting game character you will ever encounter, he will constantly spam his guns so you'll be lucky to even be able to get close for a hit. Avoid him at all costs because if you fight him, he will definitely end your run.
- Lex Luthor - He's not the most annoying character you could face, but his shield and charge move make him too unpredictable and he can counter your combo with ease, try to make him your 1st or 2nd opponent or just avoid him altogether.
- Green Lantern - He is arguably the hardest character to beat on max difficulty and similar to Aquaman, will constantly hit you with big combos to finish you quickly. He will appear a lot but try your best to avoid him.
- The Flash - Very similar reasons to avoid him as Green Lantern but slightly easier to defeat. Will hit you with massive combos which he will also extend with his character power and counter your combo the majority of the time, he is very difficult to defeat and very frustrating.
- Martian Manhunter - Possible to beat but too unpredictable, will counter your combo by teleporting behind you a lot, an overall annoying character to face but not very difficult to defeat with good luck.
- Batgirl - A very frustrating character to fight against, will rarely appear on your set of opponents but will counter your combo by spamming an unblock-able move over and over. Avoid her.
- Doomsday - He will either use his Venom Tackle or activate his shield to counter your combo, he is very difficult to defeat.
- Fight these characters at your own risk, while they are still possible to beat, these are the characters that are most likely to end your run due to their unpredictable nature and their tendencies to counter you and finish you off quickly the majority of the times that you face them.
- The perfect set of characters you could hope for to attempt this challenge would look something like this:
- Zatanna
- The Joker
- Nightwing
- Wonder Woman
- Batman
- Cyborg
- Killer Frost
- Harley Quinn
- Black Adam
- Hawkgirl
- Of course you would have to be very, very lucky to get all of these into one set, so if you get any of the difficult opponents mentioned above, try to make them your 1st or 2nd opponent, that way you won't have to backtrack as much if they defeat you. If any of the characters mentioned above are placed toward the end of the ladder, simply restart and get a new set of fighters, because there's nothing worse than being 9/10 fights in and then losing to a difficult fighter.
- When you get a set of fighters you feel comfortable with, try not to be too aggressive. Keep some space between you and the opponent and pick your moment to start the combo, apart from the fighters mentioned above the majority of the fighters will not counter the swamp hands, so you can move in for a big combo. You MUST have at least 1 bar on your meter full to start the combo, keep this in mind and don't be afraid to let your opponent hit you a little to charge it, trust me if you can consistently pull of the combo they will run out of health way before you do.
- You will have to retry this one countless times before you finally complete it, all I can say is that diligence is key and to stay patient, it is possible and it will be conquered with practice. Good luck!
- Difficulty - Medium
- Can restart at the same opponent if defeated
- Best character to use - Solomon Grundy
- This mode will throw 24 of the game's characters at you back to back and you will have to defeat them all. There are no extra conditions in this mode, simply work your way through the extended arcade ladder to complete this. Although the conditions state that you'll be fighting every character in the game, this is not the case as there will be a mix of original and DLC characters in your roster of opponents, overall 6 characters will be missing.
- The Solomon Grundy combo works brilliantly here and makes this mode easier than it should be. It's recommend that you keep restarting until you get The Joker, The Flash and any opponent you might struggle with within your first 9 opponents, as they could become a problem later on in your run.
- This would be a good opportunity to practice for the mode after this one, keep in mind you can restart at the same opponent here so no pressure at all.
- Difficulty - Hard / Very Hard
- Being defeated will send you back to the beginning
- Best character to use - Solomon Grundy
- This is it, the most intimidating challenge of them all! This mode requires you to defeat 24 characters back to back with a single health meter. Similar to "Full House", your opponents will be a mix of original and DLC characters, so you won't actually be fighting every fighter in the game to complete this. Again, 6 characters will be missing.
- You'll be pleased to know that this mode isn't actually as hard as it sounds. Though still quite difficult, if you have the Solomon Grundy combo mastered up to this point you'll have a much easier time with this mode as nearly all of the characters will not counter your combo. The first 9 opponents you fight will be very easy to beat, after these opponents the A.I. will gradually increase in difficulty until your final 2-3 opponents will be on near max difficulty.
- You also gain health after each match you complete, Similar to the "Survivor" mode, the amount of health that you gain depends on what actions you perform in the match. The amount you gain is exactly the same as in "Survivor".
- Overall the most important tips to keep in mind with this mode are:
- Only use your super meter when absolutely necessary.
- Initiate / Win a clash if you desperately need health.
- Only worry about regaining health if you lose your first health bar, if this happens stay as aggressive as possible for 2-3 opponents to regain your lost health.
- If you lose your first health bar before your 15th opponent, it will become very difficult to complete the battle.
- Use the Solomon Grundy combo as much as you possibly can, the A.I. is dumber than in "The Max" so it should be easier to pull off consistently. DO NOT use meter burn swamp hands unless you have to. Instead try to start your combo by getting close and launching your opponent into the air with +.
- Pay close attention to your first 9 opponents. If The Flash, Batman & The Joker are not in your first 9 opponents I recommend restarting until they are as they seem to provide the most trouble and frustration in this mode. Knock them out as early as possible to avoid any problems later, trust me you don't want to get to the end and lose to either of them.
- Staying calm is very important here. Calm mind = Better focus.
- Once you have completed this mode and if you've been completing the modes in order, the trophy will unlock and the majority of the game that is left will feel like an absolute breeze in comparison. Take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back, you've earned it.
