Typhoid and paratyphoid fevers - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
Typhoid and paratyphoid fevers are relatively rare in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) and are mainly acquired during travel to countries outside the EU/EEA, particularly in south Asia. For 2017, 22 EU/EEA countries reported a total of 1 098 cases.

Variant Creutzfeldtâ?’Jakob disease - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
No cases of variant Creutzfeldtâ?’Jakob disease (vCJD) were identified in the EU/EEA in 2017. The disease remains extremely rare. This is consistent with the current understanding of the underlying epidemiology of vCJD and with the positive impact of risk mitigation measures introduced in the EU in the late 1980s to remove potential infectious animal material from the human food chain.

Shigellosis - Annual Epidemiological Report for 2017
Shigellosis is a relatively uncommon disease in the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA), but remains of concern in some countries and for some population groups. For 2017, 30 EU/EEA countries reported 6 337 confirmed shigellosis cases.
