  • Lynn Smith is the anchor of the HLN (CNN Headline News) live daily news program On The Story, which she joined in March 2019, after five years as host of the network's popular Weekend Express with Lynn Smith.

    Prior to her work at HLN, Smith hosted "First Look" on MSNBC and "Early Today" on NBC.

    Smith joined MSNBC in January 2010. Prior to MSNBC, she served as a General Assignment Reporter and fill-in anchor for WNBC-News 4 New York since January 2009.

    Smith joined WNBC from NBC-owned station WCAU in Philadelphia, where she was a general assignment reporter since June 2007. In January 2008, her role was expanded and she was promoted to co-anchor of "NBC 10 Weekend Today" on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

    Prior to WCAU, she spent two years working at "Today" on NBC as an Associate Producer before being promoted to a Producer. In 2007, her role expanded to the other side of the camera when she became an Online Correspondent for todayshow.com, and several of her pieces were featured on "Today." She also freelanced as a General Assignment Reporter for NBC-owned station WVIT in Hartford, Connecticut.

    Smith graduated magna cum laude from Miami University in Ohio, where she was a mass communications major, wrote for the university newspaper, and served as an anchor/reporter for the university television station. Following graduation, she was awarded a prestigious internship with the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. In 2001, she joined NBC's Page Program in Los Angeles before moving East to pursue her passion for news.
