Eugene Alfred is both a carver and graphic artist. Born in 1970 in Mayo, Yukon, Eugene is of Northern Tutchone and Tlingit ancestry and belongs to the Crow Clan from the Selkirk First Nation of Pelly Crossing. He has trained under a number of prominent artists, including Tahltan-Tlingit master carver Dempsey Bob, Stan Bevan, and Ken McNeil. Eugene has also taught carving and tool-making courses at the Kitanmaax School in Hazelton, B.C., McBride Museum in Whitehorse, Yukon, and Yukon College Campus in Pelly Crossing. Eugene’s work has been exhibited widely since 1993 and today he can be found in a number of significant collections, including the Canada Council Art Bank in Ottawa, Ontario. Eugene has also worked on select commissions, designing album covers and producing large-scale carvings for the Yukon Tourism Branch based in Whitehorse.
