Roadmap

Stage 1: Combo Expert Challenges and Other Combo-Related Trophies, and Using the Progressive Control Playstyle

NOTE
This guide uses the game's progressive command inputs for the combos listed in some trophies, so be sure to keep this in mind before attempting to do these combos with the classic inputs.

This step will have you take on a series of challenges that require you to deal a specific amount of damage against your opponent or the training dummy in Training Mode. Thankfully, with the progressive play style and the right gougi decks you should use, regardless of what version you own, you will be able to unlock these trophies with easy with much simpler methods instead of using complex combos like those in traditional fighting games. There is also another trophy that you can unlock for starting a match in any mode with the play style set to Progressive, which allows for simpler command inputs for Special Moves and Super Combos.

Combo Expert: Kairi
Deal over 90 damage with a Kairi combo.
28.72%

Bronze
Kairi is the game's run-of-the-mill shoto character with special moves that are similar to those found in Ryu's movesets in the Street Fighter series. Because of this, he is considered to be a beginner-friendly character due to the simplicity of his moveset and gameplay thanks to said similarities with Ryu.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo with Kairi that deals at least 90 points of damage or more. This can easily be accomplished with the following combo while using the Supernova gougi deck (or Miracle if you're playing the game without the latest patch installed), which will end with a total of 121 points of damage being dealt towards the dummy (98 with Miracle pre-patch).

R1 -> RightLeftSquare (up until the 7th hit) -> LeftRightSquare
Combo Expert: Shirase
Deal over 85 damage with a Shirase combo.

Bronze
Shirase (formerly known as Bloody Hokuto in the Street Fighter EX series) is the game's rekka character where some of her moves have additional attacks that can be done by tapping an additional input after you have executed one of her special moves, much like those found in Kyo Kusanagi's movesets from The King of Fighters '96 onwards (excluding The King of Fighters XII).

For instance, after performing Chugeki-Hoh, you can follow up with either Shogekiha, Chu-Hoh, or Shigai-Kyaku to create new possibilities for combos while playing as her. She is also the alternate version of Hokuto, who is a playable DLC character that is only available for those who purchased the standard version of the game.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to deal a total of 85 damage or more in a single combo using Shirase. This can be accomplished with the following combo while using the Supernova deck (or Miracle if you're playing the game without the latest patch), which will result in a combo that deals 103 points of damage against the dummy (88 with Miracle pre-patch).

Combo Expert: Garuda

Uncommon
Bronze
Garuda is one of the game's heavy hitters, where his combos and attacks can deal a good amount of damage, although not as much whenever they are done during a combo, especially when compared to the likes of Jack and Shadowgeist.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to deal a total of 90 damage or more in a single combo using Garuda. This can be done easily by using the same deck you've used for Kairi's and Shirase's trophies along with the following combo, but it is highly advised to do this combo with the opponent in the corner, with the player facing right.

LeftRightSquare -> RightLeftSquare
Combo Expert: Skullomania
Deal over 80 damage with a Skullomania combo.
27.10%
Uncommon
Bronze
Skullomania is one of the game's two joke characters who has a rather unorthodox fighting style with a rather unusual moveset, where some of his moves parody those found in traditional Tokusatsu series such as Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, but nevertheless, he became a fan favorite for his humorous nature and his aforementioned fighting style.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to deal at least 80 points of damage or more in a single combo using Skullomania. You can easily achieve this by using the same deck you've used (depending on whether you're playing this before or after installing the latest patch) with the following combo, which will deal a total of 93 points of damage with the Supernova deck as a result (81 if you did this pre-patch with the Miracle deck).

R1 -> LeftRightSquare
Combo Expert: Darun
Deal over 90 damage with a Darun combo.
26.60%

Bronze
Darun is the game's mainstray grappler with the majority of his moves being command grabs such as Indra Bridge and Brahma Bomb, to name a few. If you are familiar with characters such as Zangief from the Street Fighter series, Raiden from The King of Fighters XIII, and Iron Tager from BlazBlue, then Darun is the recommended character of choice.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals 90 points of damage or more using Darun. This can easily be achieved by performing the following combo while using the same gougi deck, which will result in a combo that deals 109 points of damage (94 if you did this pre-patched with the Miracle deck).

Triangle -> RightSquare -> LeftRightSquare
Combo Expert: Allen
Deal over 90 damage with an Allen combo.
25.73%
Uncommon
Bronze
Allen is the game's second joke character who is technically the Ken to Kairi's Ryu, except he is more akin to Dan than he is to Ken. Unfortunately, his super combos deal much less damage when compared to the rest of the roster.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals 90 or more damage using Allen. As with the rest of the Combo Expert trophies, you can easily achieve this with the following combo while using the same deck as you did with Kairi for a total of 128 points of damage being dealt towards the dummy (97 if done with the Miracle deck pre-patched).

Triangle -> LeftSquare -> LeftRightSquare -> LeftRightCross
Combo Expert: Doctrine

Doctrine Dark is a zoning character that deals with setting traps such as mines to throw the player off guard and prevent them from going near him. He also has a wire attack that allows him to attack the player from a distance and/or pull them towards the player, much like that of Scorpion in the Mortal Kombat series.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a total of 80 points of damage or more in a single combo using Doctrine Dark. As with the previous trophies, you can use the same deck you have been using with the following combo for a total of 101 points of damage (83 if done with the Miracle deck pre-patched).

R1 -> LeftCircle -> LeftRightCross
Combo Expert: Blair
Deal over 90 damage with a Blair combo.
25.29%
Uncommon
Bronze
Blair Dame is a mix between Chun-Li and Cammy from the Street Fighter series since most of her moves deal with kicks as opposed to punches like most characters. Like Kairi, she is also a beginner-friendly character.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals 90 damage or more using Blair. Much like other characters, you can use the same deck as before while attempting the following combo that deals 110 points of damage (94 if you did this pre-patch with the Miracle deck).

R1 -> RightTriangle -> LeftRightSquare (until combo reaches its 5th hit) -> LeftRightCross

Bronze
Jack is another one of the game's heavy hitters, where some of his attacks can deal a good amount of damage depending on which gougi deck you are using. He also has his own command grabs (one normal and one super combo), but doesn't offer much in regards to them when compared to Darun's command grabs.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals at least 100 points of damage or more using Jack. As with other characters, you can use the Supernova deck (or Miracle if you're doing this pre-patch) while attempting the following combo that will deal 122 points of damage (102 if you did this with the Miracle deck pre-patch).

Shadowgeist is the last of the three heavy hitters that are featured in the game. Like Skullomania, he also has an unorthodox moveset, but with attacks inspired from those of Tokusatsu and anime villains and/or anti-heroes.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals 80 damage or more using Shadowgeist. As with previous the Combo Expert trophies, you can use the Supernova deck (or Miracle if you don't have the latest patch installed) and perform the following combo for a total of 93 points of damage that will be dealt towards the dummy (84 if you did this pre-patch with the Miracle deck).

Similar to Shirase/Hokuto, Sanane (AKA Nanase in the Street Fighter EX series) is also a rekka character that deals with chain combos with her staff, and with a counter much like that of her sister’s, where she will attack her opponent with said weapon whenever they try to attack her.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals at least 85 points of damage or more using Sanane. Like the rest of the cast, you can use the same deck you've used beforehand along with the following combo that deals 113 points of damage against the dummy (91 with the Miracle deck pre-patch).

Hayate is a rushdown-type character and the last of the game's twelve initial characters, as well as the game's first original character who is actually a descendant of Hayate from the Street Fighter EX series. Like Garuda, he can use his weapon (in this case, a sword) with special moves, such as Kamaitachi and Hisenzan or his unique Enrakushisho attack, to name a few, but he does not utilize it in his normal attacks.

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that deals 90 points of damage or more using Hayate. As with the rest of the cast, you can use the same deck you've used before (Supernova or Miracle depending on whether or not you choose to install the latest patch) alongside the following combo that deals a total of 110 points of damage (92 if you did this with the Miracle deck before installing the patch).

In order to unlock this trophy, you will need to perform a combo that has 30 or more hits in it. This can prove to be a challenge if you don't regularly play fighting games, but thankfully, the progressive control scheme will make this easier to accomplish.

The recommended character for this trophy is Garuda, since his Kiensho and Kienbu Super Combos add more hits when compared to the other super combos that are featured in the game. The combo you can use to achieve this is found below, but it's highly recommended to do this in the corner and make sure you don't have the training dummy's deck set to Juggernaut.

RightR1 -> LeftRightSquare (up until 15th or 16th hit) -> RightLeftSquare

If done successfully, you will have a combo that has up to at least 30 to 32 hits registered in it, which will be enough to unlock the trophy, and as with Garuda's combo expert trophy, it's highly recommend to do this combo while the dummy is bound to the corner with the player facing right.

The recommended character you should use for this particular trophy is Jack, since he also has a trophy that requires you to deal 100 points of damage while playing as him by using the combo found in his trophy, so be sure to refer to Bronze Combo Expert: Jack for the combo in question.

Silver
This trophy can prove to be a challenge due to requirements for unlocking it, as you will need to keep them in the air for up to at least 10 seconds before they touch the ground again in order to do so.

The recommended character for this trophy is Darun with the Aggro deck, as his Power Indra Bridge (RightLeftCross) Super Combo will allow him to throw the opponent up high so he can juggle them with heavy kick (R2) before using the same Super Combo again. Repeat this process until you have unlocked this trophy, but you can also unlock the Silver Break the Limit trophy since you will be able to perform the aforementioned attack four times during this combo.

For a video demonstrating how to unlock both this and the Silver Break the Limit trophies, please refer to the one below.

Additionally, you can also attempt this trophy in the 13th mission of Allen's expert mode combo trials, where you will need to repeatedly use Triple Break (input found on his combo trophy) to juggle the opponent in the air, but be sure to time each hit with it correctly.
Counterattack
Perform 30 Reversal Attacks.
35.24%
Uncommon
Bronze
A common element in fighting games, Reversals are counterattacks that can be done as soon as either the player or opponent wake up after being knocked down from a hard attack or a sweep, or whenever they recover from blocking an opponent's attack.

For example, the player can perform Allen's Rising Dragon or Kairi's Shinki-Hatsudo as soon as they recover from a knockdown state; and not only will they be able to do a counterattack, but they will also gain ten points of meter for triggering a reversal attack.

In the case of this trophy, you will need to do a total of 30 reversal attacks by using special moves, such as the aforementioned two attacks, upon recovering. Keep in mind that the timing for these attacks are very strict, as you will need to do this while you are in the recovery state when recovering from a knockdown or after blocking an attack

You can also achieve this easily by using the record and playback functions in training mode and have the dummy use a crouching heavy kick (DownR2) next to you and make the process of unlocking this much easier.

To perform a tech roll, you will need to press any one of the six action buttons as soon as your character is about to hit the ground. This will cause the player to roll backwards and safely land back on the ground.

As the trophy's description states, you will need to utilize 30 tech recoveries in any match or in training mode in order to unlock it. You can also achieve this easily by using the record and playback functions in training mode and have the dummy use a crouching heavy kick next to you and make the process of unlocking this much easier.

To escape a throw, you will need to press both Square and Cross at the same time as soon as the opponent grabs you to push them away from you. Additionally, you will also get a tech bonus for each throw you have escaped from your opponent.

As the trophy's description states, you will need to escape ten throws from your opponent in any course of the match in order to unlock it. You can also achieve this easily by using the record and playback functions in training mode and have the dummy attempt to throw you by pressing the same aforementioned buttons to make the process of unlocking this much easier.

Hard Attacks are special attacks that can be done by pressing both Triangle and Circle at the same time. They are also unblockable while the opponent is crouching, in which the player can use that to their advantage to stagger them and unleash a combo against them.

As the trophy's description states, you will need to land five different Hard Attacks while the opponent or training dummy is crouching in order to unlock it. If you are playing in training mode, you will need to pause the game and go to the Opponent tab, where you can change its stance to Crouching to make the process of unlocking this trophy much easier.

In Fighting EX Layer, there are two different play styles to choose from: Progressive and Classic.

Progressive deals with simple and easy joystick motions for performing special moves (such as Right + Square/Triangle/R1 for Kairi's Shinki Hatsudo, for example), and is best suited for beginners; while Classic deals with inputs such as the standard Left Stick: DownLeft Stick: Down & RightLeft Stick: Right /Left Stick: DownLeft Stick: Down & LeftLeft Stick: Left joystick motions, which are common in arcade-style fighting games. Additionally, you can also view the commands for each move in both play styles by pressing Cross while looking at the command list to switch between them.

For this trophy, you will need to start a match in any mode (Training included) with the progressive playstyle, whichever character or stage you choose does not matter as the trophy will be unlocked as soon as the match starts.

Kumite Mode is one of the game's two only known methods (as of July 26th, 2018 with the addition of Arcade mode) of having the player fight against the CPU. This can be accessed by going into the Opponent tab in the training mode pause menu.

Change the settings there to the following options:
  • Opponent's Status: CPU
  • CPU Format: Kumite
  • Difficulty: Easy

Once you have set the settings up to the ones above, you will now begin to fight against a series of CPU opponents, much akin to that of Survival mode in other fighting games. The character I used to unlock this trophy is Hokuto, but Shirase is also viable since she has a similar moveset to the former, although Blair is also recommended due to the nature of her special attacks and super combos. Keep in mind that the dummy's deck will also change depending on how many opponents you have defeated.

I will also recommend the Miracle deck, regardless of the version you are playing, as not only will it grant a damage buff for special moves and super combos, but it will also grant you super armor that will minimize the amount of damage you will receive from the opponent.

Silver
This will most likely be the last trophy that you will unlock on your journey to obtain the game's platinum trophy, as you will need to deal a total of 500,000 damage in Training Mode in order to unlock it.

The recommended character to use for this trophy is Skullomania, as his Super Skullo Crusher (Left Right Square) Super Combo can be used to grind out the damage needed to unlock this trophy. it's also recommended to equip the player with either the Miracle or Babel Decks, while the dummy will have the Juggernaut deck, with all Gougi enhancements enabled for both, the player and the dummy.

Another recommended deck to use is the Supernova deck for the player and the Juggernaut deck for the dummy, where you can activate all gougi by landing 25 special attacks, and then use R1 (Heavy Punch) or R2 (Heavy Kick) to attack the opponent. This method should only be done with a turbo controller, where you can bind turbo to either one of the two aforementioned buttons so the player character can keep attacking the dummy repeatedly. (Credit to ryuji_sakujo for information on this method)

Alongside Skullomania, another recommended character for this is Garuda, where you can use the Babel deck and then perform the Soukondan Right  LeftCross) Super Combo while the opponent is in the corner (the opponent's deck should still be Juggernaut). Thankfully, the damage dealt to the dummy from this super combo will still increase each time this is used. (Credit to SirDave1988 for information on this method)

If you are using the Miracle deck, you can simply perform the aforementioned Super Combo to attack the opponent, then press the Touch Pad to reset your position and repeat this process over and over again, but if you are using the Babel deck, you can repeatability use Skullo Crusher (Right Square) to build up the Desperation Gougi's effects so it can power up the damage done by the aforementioned special move; then once you have maxed out said Gougi, you will need to repeat the same special move to attack the opponent while they have Super Armor enabled (through the Hades gougi). Be sure not to reset your positions whenever you are using the Babel deck, as that will also reset the Desperation Gougi's effects back to 0, meaning that you will have to repeatedly use Skullo Crusher until it hits 99 again.

Thankfully, this trophy can be done in more than one training mode session, making this accumulative, so you can go back to training mode and repeat either one of the two processes mentioned above (depending on which version of the game you have purchased) once you decided to do another session in the aforementioned mode.

In Fighting EX Layer, Gougi are status enhancements to your character that function similarly to those of gems in Street Fighter X Tekken and the Infinity Stones in Marvel Super Heroes. These enhancements come in many different varieties, such as increasing damage in Special Moves and Super Combos, granting super armor to protect you from damage, and additional points you can gain to your meter or chip damage while an opponent is guarding.

It should be noted that depending on the type of gougi enhancement that is activated, it will either stay in effect from the rest of the match, or reset when a new round starts. Blue Gougi will stay active throughout the match, while Orange Gougi will remain active for the current round, and then reset until you activate it again in the next round (in some cases, some Orange gougi's will remain active throughout the course of the match without resetting when a new round starts).
