The Global Investigative Journalism Network is a nonprofit organization registered in the U.S. state of Maryland. Most of its budget comes from foundation support in the form of grants and, to a lesser extent, from individual donations, in-kind contributions, conference fees, and speaking and consulting fees. GIJN receives generous core support from a variety of foundations, including the Adessium Foundation, Bay and Paul Foundations, Ford Foundation, Humanity United, Oak Foundation, Open Society Foundations, and the Reva & David Logan Foundation.
Project-specific funding comes from the Resilience Fund of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime and Craig Newmark Philanthropies. GIJN’s Africa program receives support from the Consortium for Human Rights and Media in Africa project (CHARM) through our partner Fojo: Media Institute at Linnaeus University in Sweden.
We also receive donations from individuals, including generous support from Laura E. Arnold and John D. Arnold.
In-kind contributions have come from the LexisNexis Rule of Law Foundation, for providing low-cost access to its news and information services to GIJN and its member organizations; the Knight Chair in Investigative Reporting in the Journalism Department at the University of Illinois on the Urbana-Champaign campus; and the Institute for Nonprofit News for fiscal sponsorship and IT support.
