Find and install Add-ons on Firefox for Android

You can install a limited number of extensions from the Recommended Extensions program to add features to Firefox for Android. This article explains how to find, install and manage these extensions.

We are working to continuously add supported add-ons to Firefox for Android, see supported extensions here.

How do I find and install add-ons?

You can find and install extensions for Firefox for Android in the browser's Add-ons Manager. Currently, you cannot install extensions directly from addons.mozilla.org.

  1. Tap the menu button.

    Fenix79Menu
  2. Tap the Add-ons menu item.
  3. Tap the Add-ons Manager menu item.
  4. Here you can see a list of supported extensions.
  5. Tap on an add-on to learn more. To install it, tap on the + button.
  6. This will then show you the access that extension requires.
Tap Add to install the extension.
    FenixInstallAddOn
  7. After installing the extension, Firefox will give you the opportunity to enable it in private browsing. You can check mark Allow in private browsing now or enable it later (see below).
    FenixInstallAddOnFinish
  8. Tap Okay, Got it to finish.

How do I update, change options or remove add-ons?

Update your add-ons

When you update Firefox for Android, it will automatically update your add-ons to compatible versions if they are available.

All other extensions that are not supported on the new Firefox for Android will be disabled for now.

Temporary disable or remove an add-on

You can disable or remove extensions from the Add-ons Manager in Firefox for Android:

  1. Tap the menu button.

    Fenix79Menu
  2. Tap the Add-ons menu item.
  3. Tap the Add-ons Manager menu item.
  4. Under Enabled is a list of what add-ons are currently active.
  5. Tap on the add-on you want to change.

To disable: Toggle the Enabled slider to off.

To uninstall: Tap the Remove button.

Here you can also view/edit Settings, Details and Permissions for the add-on.

Enable add-ons in private browsing

Add-ons (migrated and installed) are disabled by default in private browsing. To change this setting:

  1. Tap the menu button.

    Fenix79Menu
  2. Tap the Add-ons menu item.
  3. Tap the add-on you want to change.
  4. Tap the slider next to Run in private browsing to turn it on or off.

Expanded extension support in Firefox for Android Nightly

If using Firefox for Android Nightly you are able to install any extension listed on addons.mozilla.org (AMO) in Nightly.

This override was created for extension developers and advanced users who are interested in testing for compatibility, so it’s not easily accessible. Learn more about how to enable general extension support setting in Nightly.

Will more extensions be supported in the future?

We would like to enable support for more extensions on the new Firefox for Android experience and we are currently evaluating ways we can do so without introducing the compatibility and security issues from the previous version of our mobile browser for Android. We'll provide updates as soon as we have more details.

How do I change the theme of my Firefox for Android browser?

Due to the different user interface (UI) of the new Firefox for Android, only a limited number of pre-installed themes are available. See Using Dark Theme in Firefox for Android to learn more.
