CHM: the five-minute healthcare solution

Do you wish you could find a biblical, compassionate solution to your healthcare costs? CHM is exactly that and more. Learn in five minutes the advantages of this 21st century ministry and how CHM meets the needs of families, ministries and budgets across the nation and in many foreign countries.

What is CHM and how does it work?

The mission of Christian Healthcare Ministries is to glorify God, show Christian love, and experience God's presence as Christians share each other's medical bills. Based on New Testament examples, fellow believers step in to help them using a accountable, definable, faithful framework. Learn how the ministry works in this helpful video.

The importance of the CHM Guidelines

CHM staff explains our Guidelines and the many ways they benefit you and empower you to share with other Christians and carry one another’s healthcare burdens.

How to submit medical bills to CHM

Submitting medical bills to Christian Healthcare Ministries isn't hard but it is different. Follow these steps to be sure your medical bills are uploaded and processed correctly and timely.

Knowing the CHM lingo: Incident versus illness

Two words we use a lot at CHM are “illness” and “incident.” Why is it important to understand these terms? Knowing what these two words mean will help you as you submit medical bills and understand your personal responsibility when medical events arise. For example, the CHM Guidelines state that your personal responsibility is determined per incident, and CHM shares $125,000 per illness. Learn more by watching this helpful video.

The CHM story as told by members

Miraculous holiday healing

Sonya Lewis-Picon had no idea how sick she was. What she though was a normal cold or flue put her in a medically-induced coma for 12 days, with a machine breathing for her. Doctors told her husband she had only 1 30 percent chance of surviving.

See how God worked a miracle in Sonya's life and learn how CHM members share 100 percent of her eligible medical bills!

"The baby’s at the bottom of the pool!"

Every parent’s worst fear came true for the Olchesky family. Their daughter was underwater and without air for at least seven minutes, if not more. When they pulled her out, she was completely blue—unresponsive. As she was rushed to the hospital, all they could do was pray.

Hear how God cared for Olchesky family from the moment Susu fell in the pool, and how faithful CHM members shared over $88,000 in medical bills.

"A farming accident nearly killed me, but God held my hand"

It would have been easy for Laurie Hayn to call it quits. After a farm combine accident took both her left arm and leg, she had to learn to do almost everything again. But when her doctors told her that she wouldn’t be able to walk, she said, “Watch me.” God had been preparing her for this her entire life, and she was not going to let it stop her.

Three families share their "glory to God" stories (Denton, TX)

With over 30 years of experience with CHM, the Dobraska family knew that CHM was a biblical, compassionate and faithful way of taking care of healthcare costs. When she told her friends, the Parks and the McEntires, they also joined the ministry. Since then, they have all faced medical incidents, whether it be falling off a roof, having a baby, or knee replacements.

Listen as these families come together to discuss why they joined the ministry and how it has been there for them, through the thick and the thin.

Glen and Verna Dobraska (Corinth, TX)

Over the 30 years the Dobraskas have been CHM members, they have faced a multitude of injuries and illnesses. The worst, however, was when their daughter Kristy was kicked in the back of the head by a horse. With several fractures and a multi-day stay in the hospital, they knew it would be the ultimate test of CHM.

Hear the Dobraskas’ share about CHM’s faithfulness through their more than 30 years of ministry membership and over $150,000 in shared medical bills.

Glen and Mistie Parks (Denton, TX)

When the Park family joined CHM, they hoped that they would never have to use it. Things changed quickly, though, when Mistie picked up a call from Glenn’s boss. Glenn had fallen off of a roof at work and was quickly on his way to the hospital. Thoughts rushed through her head: “Will he be okay?” and “Will CHM work for us?”

Hear Mistie and Glenn’s story of CHM’s faithfulness and of how they received 90 percent discounts on their medical bills!

Jake and Charity McEntire (Denton, TX)

God gives everyone dreams, and the McEntires had two dreams: Jake wanted to see his script for Run the Race on the big screen and Charity wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Charity was working at a school when her fellow teacher told her about CHM. They joined CHM shortly after, but now was the time for the test. Would CHM enable them to pursue their dreams and share for the birth of their baby boy?

Dr. Tim & Jonna Ryan (Cartersville, GA)

Dr. Ryan has been practicing medicine for 24 years now. He and his wife, Jonna, built The Physician’s Practice from the ground up, believing that a direct primary care system was the best way they could serve the community around them. When they found CHM, they knew that CHM’s similar goals and values made the ministry the perfect healthcare partner. Then, the unexpected happened: Jonna was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In this video, learn a doctor’s thoughts on CHM and see how CHM members helped share over $180,000 in cancer medical bills for Jonna.

Kimberly Rae Thigpen (Madison, GA)
Despite normal test results, missionary and author Kimberly Rae Thigpen struggled with debilitating health issues. When her health problems required her and her family to return to the United States after serving as missionaries in Uganda, Kosovo and Indonesia, all she could see was lifelong disability and an overwhelming stack of prescriptions. After an MRI, doctors finally discovered the source of her medical difficulties.

God used her circumstances to build her faith. He also opened the door for her to be mere hours away from one of the few doctors who could treat her rare condition—and because of her Gold level membership with Christian Healthcare Ministries, Kimberly was able to get the care she needed.
Jonathan & Lesia Pettijohn (Valley View, TX)

The Pettijohn clan is a multigenerational “CHM family.” After being impressed by CHM’s ministry and stewardship principles, Lyndon “Tiger” Pettijohn and his wife, Anne, encouraged their son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Lesia, to join as well. They had no idea of the level of support they would receive from ministry members as CHM shared medical bills for Tiger—and helped usher them into grandparenthood. Jon and Lesia experienced the blessings of CHM’s Gold maternity program for each of their children, including one born in an unexpected place.

John Perona (Nashville, TN)

John Perona had just won the opportunity of a lifetime: an all-expense-paid trip to represent the Tennessee Titans at the NFL draft by delivering the first-round draft pick jersey, live on ESPN’s prime time. Shortly after receiving that news, his doctors found a golf ball-sized tumor on his left kidney. After testing it, they determined that it was cancer and needed quick removal.

The Hills (Ada, MI)

Intending to return to Uganda where they serve as missionaries, the Hill family rejoiced as they learned they would give birth after their arrival. Concerned about their pregnancy being on the heels of a miscarriage, doctors encouraged them to remain in the United States for their baby’s birth. Complications ensued, including a less than 10-minute survival window for both mother and son. See how the Hills learned about God’s involvement in their lives and His provision of $300,000 through CHM members for the birth of their son, Joshua.

The Standrings (American Fork, UT)

Not long after their two-week-old son passed away from a heart defect, the Standring family learned that their two-year-old daughter, Mazy, had leukemia. This is Jennifer’s story about an ornery horse, a painful concussion and how her fears about expensive medical costs were put to rest by the help she received as a CHM member.

Jeff Christerson (Aptos, CA)

Jeff Christerson was attending a music festival with his girlfriend and her family when the unthinkable happened: a shooter opened fire on the Las Vegas crowd, killing 58 and leaving more than 850 wounded. Jeff explains how CHM members shared $11,000 and is grateful to God for his “second chance at life.”

Foothills Christian Church (El Cajon, CA)

Saranne Wilson (Lakeside, CA)

Hear the compelling story of Cliff and Saranne Wilson, who faced a heart transplant and over $400,000 in medical bills. After large discounts, all the bills were shared through CHM’s Gold schedule and Prayer Page programs for pre-existing conditions. In Saranne’s words: “We received financial support from the Prayer Page, and it was just such a relief to know that financial burden was going to be taken care of. And it was.”
