Who is CHM for?
The qualifications for joining are simple: Participating adults must be Christians who attend worship regularly as health permits (Hebrews 10:25), actively follow the teachings of the New Testament in its entirety and embrace the CHM Statements of Beliefs.
That’s right: There are no restrictions for membership based on age, weight, geographic location or health history. Entering into our 40th year of ministry, CHM has served Christians in all 50 states and around the world.
CHM members follow biblical principles with respect to the use of alcohol and abstain from practices inconsistent with a biblical lifestyle, including (but not limited to) illegal drugs, tobacco, nicotine, any smoking device (including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, herbal cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vape pens, etc.), and sexual immorality (as defined in the Scriptures and expressed in CHM’s Statements of Beliefs).
Missionaries: Missionaries are welcome to join CHM and participate in the blessing of sharing fellow believers’ healthcare costs. All members must have a U.S. mailing address to receive sharing funds. See the CHM Guidelines for more information.
Groups: Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM) has hundreds of participating groups—all of which are Christian organizations with an all-Christian staff. Furthermore, all group members meet other CHM membership requirements.
Understanding units
Christian Healthcare Ministries uses a unit system. A unit is a participating individual within a membership. A single person is one unit, a married couple is two units (any two individuals must be two units), and a family is three units, regardless of the number of dependent children. Different units may participate in different programs (Gold, Silver, or Bronze).
Single-parent households: If you are legally and financially responsible for a child or children, your membership will be two units (the parent is the first unit and all children are the second unit).
Households with one participating spouse: If one spouse is a CHM member and the other spouse chooses not to be a member, the participating spouse is one CHM unit and all dependent children are an additional unit (a total of two units).
Adult children: Adult children can be a part of your membership until their 26th birthday as long as they meet all of the following qualifications:
- They must be Christians living by biblical principles.
- They must be single.
- They must be your legal dependents (i.e. they must be reported as dependents on your income tax forms).
Children who are no longer legal dependents can transition seamlessly to their own CHM membership. Immediate transition will allow any issues relating to pre-existing conditions to date back to the original start date when they participated under their parents’ membership.
Adopted children: When a CHM member adopts a child or otherwise has obtained legal custody with legal responsibility for a child’s medical care, that child can be included in your CHM membership. If any other source is responsible, willing or available to pay the child’s medical bills, these resources must be exhausted before CHM members can share bills. CHM cannot share bills for adoption expenses or for any medical expenses incurred before you become legally and financially responsible for the child, nor can we share any birth expenses for an adopted child.
