2/4 One might wish someday to stop characterizing any thought as "black," but we do it strategically now in order to fight the deeply ideological and, sadly, hegemonic narrative about the "essential nature" of dark-skinned, African-descended people that's being pushed so hard.

Why Free "BLACK" Thought? It's a rhetorical & strategic rather than metaphysical choice. "Blackness" is today tendentiously essentialized as inherently a matter of *these* beliefs vs *those* beliefs. Ours is a countervailing rhetoric, saying this *too* is "black" thought. 🧵

Tremendously insightful thread about the way "generational resentment" is passed from minority parent to minority child, such that children "inherit the wound," as we've heard style it.
