Roadmap
Stage 1: Finish the Game
Warning: Due to the nature of this game, there will be no spoiler tags and massive spoilers in the following guide - you have been warned! The bulk of Tales from the Borderlands is set after Borderlands, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands the Pre-Sequel but before the "Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary" DLC in Borderlands 2, with the rest set somewhere in between the "Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary" DLC and Borderlands 3/New Tales from the Borderlands. This game follows the then standard TellTale Games formula of 5 Episodes, with 6 chapters in each one, gameplay consisting of dialogue choices that don't matter, a ton of QTEs (Quick Time Events) and no missable trophies but knowing this formula was getting stale, they decided to do something a little different with Tales from the Borderlands and use the "Unreliable Narrator" plot device to tell the same story from 2 different angles, though it's not used much after Episode 1 and almost completely disappears by Episode 4.
The story starts off simply enough, with corporate drone Rhys and his accountant friend Vaughn celebrating Rhy's impending promotion but unfortunately for them, all good things must come to an end. Long story short: Rhys and Vaughn find themselves caught up in a high-level conspiracy to not only open one of Pandora's mythical Vaults and gain control of its contents but to also resurrect the tyrannical former CEO of Hyperion... Handsome Jack!
To get the most out of this game, it's recommended you finish the main story in Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, plus the following DLCs and side missions before starting it:
- The Secret Armory of General Knoxx (Borderlands 1 DLC)
- "Smoke Signals: Investigate Old Haven" and "Smoke Signals: Shut Them Down" (Borderlands 1 side missions)
- "Handsome AI" (Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel side mission)
- Claptastic Voyage (Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel DLC)
- The "Clan War" storyline (Borderlands 2 side missions)
- Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty (Borderlands 2 DLC)
- "Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage" or "The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler" (Borderlands 2 DLCs)
It won't take longer than 10 - 12 hours to get the Platinum but several trophies are buggy if done on the PS4 with the 2.0 patch installed, though the PS3 version appears to have no trophy issues.

Notes, General Information, Controls and Glitch Notes
Notes
- All screenshots are by HuntingFever.
- Whilst your decisions don't matter where the trophies are concerned, the Guide Author has highlighted the dialogue options that will make the last 3 chapters of Episode 5 a lot easier to finish.
- Credit to MentalMars for explaining how to unlock the hidden characters.
- Whilst it's possible to die in this game, doing so will only set you back to the last auto-save.
- There is no cross-save or auto-pop with any version of this game.
- The save system in this game revolves entirely around auto-saves.
- Whilst most of the QTEs have fixed controls that don't change between playthroughs, some of them are randomised, so they might not match up exactly with what's written in this guide.
- Tales from the Borderlands retcons part of the ending to Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep so the stories don't quite line up.
General Information
- Explaining the convoluted stacks: Before Tales from the Borderlands was temporarily delisted in the wake of TellTale Games going bankrupt, you could platinum it twice by playing the digital PS4 release, plus one of the following: PS3 digital, PS3 retail or PS4 retail but the rights are now wholesale owned by Gearbox so the only available stack is this one, which is obtained by playing either the PS3 Digital, PS3 Retail, PS4 Digital or PS4 Retail releases. When Gearbox and 2K re-released Tales from the Borderlands on the PS4 as a digital-only version, they made the boneheaded decision to use the shared PS3/PS4 list instead of the PS4 digital-only list but according to this thread, there might still be a way of getting this stack if you have access to the German PS Store.
- Patch 2.0 problems (PS4 only): The 2.0 patch that was released shortly before Tales from the Borderlands was re-released has broken several trophies and caused them to either pop early or completely out of sequence so see here for more information. These issues don't seem to affect everyone and might be fixed in the version given away with New Tales from the Borderlands. Also, it appears that either the trophies or the chapters they are attached to are incorrectly coded and appear in the wrong place, e.g. Chapter 4 is called Bro or Bot in the Chapter Select menu but in the trophy list, it's listed as Chapter 6. Whilst the official patch notes don't say what the update does, the Guide Author has discovered the following:
- The ability to create/link a TellTale Games account has been removed.
- There is no longer any option to compare your choices with other players either at the end of an episode or via the Extras menu.
- The initial boot-up screen is different.
- The in-game store has been removed (at least it has from the retail version).
- All references to the Season Pass have been removed (at least they have from the retail version).
- You can no longer link the game to Gearbox's Shift system and unlock bonus items for use in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
- At least some of the old bugs and glitches have been fixed, e.g. the chronic performance problems during Episode 5.
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel bonus items (pre-delisting and pre-patch 2.0 only): Prior to Tales from the Borderlands being delisted and before the 2.0 patch was released, it was possible to unlock bonus items for use in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel if you owned the Tales from the Borderlands Season Pass but the only way to get the guns after October 2018 (since the cosmetics are account bound and can't be traded) is to find someone who is willing to duplicate theirs. If you do happen to have a copy of the PS3 release, there is still a chance you can get the bonus items if you email Gearbox/2K and ask them to remotely unlock them in your Shift account. See here and here for support links.
Controls
Glitch Notes (PS4 Only)
Tales from the Borderlands doesn't have that many issues on the PS4 but due to it being hard to find reliable information on the current state of the PS3 release, only the PS4 glitches will be listed below:- The subtitles are incomplete/have generation errors: The subtitles have an irritating habit of appearing incomplete or even not generating correctly so they end up appearing, disappearing, then reappearing again.
- Graphical corruption/flickering: This doesn't start happening until Episode 4 but very occasionally, part of the screen will glitch out and start flickering for a few seconds.
- Lip sync issues: This is one of the rarer glitches but sometimes the lip syncing will break and go out-of-sync with what's being said at the time.
- Certain QTEs reset/auto-fail when the game is paused: This is easily the most irritating and potentially gamebreaking issue in the game but pausing during certain QTEs (Quick Time Events) will cause them to either reset or automatically fail when you unpause it.
- Frame-rate issues: This is another rare issue but occasionally, the frame rate will chug for no reason and cause some slowdown.

Welcome to Pandora, Kiddos Completed Chapter 1 of Episode 1 |
|
|
Condensed Overview of the Story for this Chapter
Chapter 1 starts with Rhys explaining to an unknown stranger how he ended up on Pandora in the first place. Starting with a flashback to an unspecified time, you see Rhys onboard Helios, the Hyperion Space Station in orbit around Pandora, talking to his friend Vaughn and discussing how they are going to work their way even higher up the corporate ladder to a life of luxury. After being metaphorically stabbed in the back by their new boss, Rhys and Vaughn decide to get their own back on him by stealing the deal he was working on to get his hands on a Vault Key. Naturally, the plan doesn't go well and ends with no one getting the Vault Key. The chapter ends with Fiona being introduced and asked by the unknown stranger to explain her side of the story. Welcome to Pandora, Kiddos will pop once the cutscene starts, which shows Fiona's backstory and how she got mixed up with Rhys and Vaughn in the first place.Exploration Sequences and QTE Solutions (In the order they appear)

This will trigger the prompt to activate Rhys's ECHO Eye ability so press it, select the computer again with , then press to activate your ability. Press when the option appears, then to download and decrypt the file Vasquez was trying to hide from you.

- Exploration Sequence 2: Highlight the Skag Pasty vendor person in the middle of the screen, then press to initiate a conversation with him. Now press to ask him where the World of Curiosities is, then press to say you're there for a "Simple business deal". Once the vendor gets in your face, press to ask, "Okay, how much will this cost me?".
- QTE 2: An options menu will appear on Rhys's palm computer, so choose the Riot Shield as the Loader Bot's Primary weapon, then the Rocket Launcher as its Secondary weapon. Once you have set both weapons, press the "Launch" button, then Yvette will send it to your location.
- QTE 3: Now press to raise Loader Bot's Riot Shield, then press and on the nearest bandit to kill it. - Now press to turn Loader Bot into a Bulldozer and kill the bandit by squishing him into the Porto-Potty. Unfortunately, all this does is anger the remaining bandits and cause one of them to fire a rocket barrage in your direction so immediately press to prevent Loader Bot from taking critical damage. With Loader Bot safe, hold right on the and select all 3 bandits, then press so the Loader Bot can take them all out with a single Rocket Salvo.

- QTE 7: An auto-save will trigger as you run off and try to locate Vaughn but you will find both him and Loader Bot under heavy attack from the bandits. It's here that Budiger (the vendor from earlier on) will appear and try to kill you so immediately press to avoid his initial attack, which then inadvertently kills one of the bandits attacking Loader Bot. Now highlight Budiger with , then press to electrocute him and send him flying backwards into the "World of Curiosities" sign, thus knocking him out cold and triggering a quip from Rhys.
- QTE 8: With Vaughn, the briefcase and Loader Bot now somewhat secure, it's time to finish off the bandits by choosing the "Optimize" option that appears on Rhys's Wrist Computer, then picking the Riot Shield and Rocket Launcher options, which brings up a warning about this configuration violating your user agreement but you don't care about that so pick the Jailbreak option, which then takes Loader Bot's Weapon Efficiency to 110%.
- Exploration Sequence 3: When you get to the World of Curiosities, move forward with until you reach the Bullymong Statue, then press to look at it. Now continue moving forward with until you reach the Seated Man and the prompt appears again that you need to press. Condensed Overview of the Story for this Chapter
Chapter 5 picks up the story right where it left off at the end of Chapter 4, with Fiona and Sasha trying to outrun Athena. After a lengthy series of cutscenes, you'll try to outrun her and some bandits, but she follows you to Scooter's garage. Once inside, you see Scooter talking to Janey Springs, but before you can get comfy, Athena opens the garage door and walks in, only for you to find out she and Janey Springs are currently dating. After some lengthy verbal sparing between Fiona and Athena, Scooter hands over the keys to the caravan, then Fiona and Sasha depart, but not before deciding what to do with Athena's shield.
After deciding the fate of Athena's shield, Fiona and Sasha drive off to meet Rhys, Vaughn and Loader Bot at Old Haven, only to discover them being held hostage by Vasquez, August and his men. After a failed attempt to stop them, Rhys and Fiona are forced to assemble the Gortys device at gunpoint, else Vasquez will kill Vaughn and Sasha. The Gortys device is assembled but Rhys drops it, then somehow triggers the base's safety protocols and summons a horde of Patrol Drones that will kill everyone if they're not stopped.
How this chapter ends depends on if you side with Fiona or Handsome Jack but for the purposes of this guide, the author went with Fiona, who throws one of Felix's Homemade Grenades into the air, then it explodes shortly after hitting the ground, whereby the screen cuts to black and the chapter ends. Classic Reflexes will pop once the Episode 3: Catch a Ride preview starts.
