•Ukraine's seaports handled 8.9 percent less cargo in 2016 than they did in 2015, according to a report from the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority picked up by Interfax Ukraine. Yuzhny seaport in the Odesa region, the largest seaport in Ukraine by transshipment, experienced a 19 percent decline in 2016 compared with 2015 cargo volume.

•Sales of new passenger cars in Ukraine in 2016 increased almost 40 percent from 2015, to 64,478 units, Interfax Ukraine reported, citing trade group AUTO-Consulting. The three top-selling makes for the year were Toyota, Renault and Volkswagen.

•The 29-year-old Ukrainian co-founder of GitLab, Dmitriy Zaporozhets, was featured on a Forbes list of 30 major tech entrepreneurs under age 30. According to the write-up, millions of programmers and more than 110,000 organizations use the open source tools that GitLab provides, and the company has raised more than $25 million from investors.

•Turkish Airlines' service between Kharkiv and Istanbul will start March 30, the company announced, according to a Ukrinform report. Flights on the new route are slated to be offered Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

•The United Nations Development Program announced tenders to procure medicines and medical products under eight programs, Interfax Ukraine reported.

•Bringing order to the customs service netted Ukraine an additional $650 million in 2016, including a record high amount in December, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said..

•In November 2016, agricultural products made up 50 percent of Ukraine's total exports, according to Gazeta.ua.

•A 10-day spell at the end of December during which temperatures varied widely won't put cereal grain yields at risk, a Ukrinform report stated. Sugar content of the winter wheat crop was quite high, testing showed.

•Ukrposhta plans to introduce a system of telemetry to monitor its mail-carrying vehicles, Ukrinform reported. The move is intended to improve the state-run postal service's bottom line, customer service and reliability.
