The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike seized all movable properties at Shiva International lodge near Majestic area on Tuesday for defaulting on payment of Rs 1.5 crore worth of building rent.
The lodge is located in the BMP commercial complex next to Upparpet police station. The lodge owner and BMP were at loggerheads for nearly two years over the issue of the building rent. While BMP wanted Rs 3 lakh rent every month, the lodge owner had refused to pay the amount.
Even the High Court had denied a stay on BMP’s notice to the lodge owner on the issue nearly a year ago. In fact, the officials were unable to initiate action as one of the former mayors was against it, BMP sources said.
When contacted, BMP Commissioner K Jothiramalingam said that all movable properties were seized as the BMP had to recover dues from the lodge owner. “We will release his properties only after getting our dues cleared,” he added.
