Oru Kalluriyin Kadhai (U/A)
G.Ulaganathan
Tamil (Nataraj, Lavanya, Maheswari, Madheswara, Amruth, Sharada, Shiva)
Cast: Arya, Sonia Agarwal
Director: Nandha Periasamy

Weird and depressing. That in a nutshell is Oru Kalluriyin Kadhai. Weird, because the story is about how a group of college students get together five years after they have left the college and try to relive the student days just to help the hero recover from a serious illness (depressive disorder) and get the girl whom he had loved and lost.

All of them come back to the college, bring even the principal who has since retired and force the girl, Sonia Agarwal who is all set for an arranged marriage, to help Arya recover.

The medicine, prescribed by doctor Charhaasan, works but logic goes flying out of the window.

The film is supposed to be exploring the depths of friendship and love.

But whole scenario is depressing and there is hardly any fun associated with college life. There is a lot of emotional drama, but both the hero and heroine sleepwalk through the film.

Sonia Agarwal seems to be the only practical person who wants to look ahead.

But surprisingly towards the end, without any reason, she dumps the man to whom she is engaged and chooses to go with Arya.

Periyasamy has taken up a complex theme but he can neither do justice to friendship nor love.

No explanation is given to the cause of Arya’s depression.

Lesser known faces like Jai Varma, Sasi and others who have played Arya’s friends do well. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is the only saving grace.
