Gowramma
S N Deepak

Kannada (Sagar, PVR Cinemas, Nalanda, Govardhan, Vaibhav, Kamakya, Navrang)

Cast: Upendra, Ramya, Srinivasamurthy, Baby Raksha, Pavitra Lokesh, Komal, Sadhu Kokila

Director: Naganna

The film Gowramma is a remake of Venkatesh-starrer Telugu film Nuvvu Naku Nuchhavu. Moreover, the film lets Upendra move away from his stereotypical roles to star in this comedy.

Shekhar (Ramesh Bhat) wants his son Venky (Upendra) to learn computers and find a job in America. But Venky wants to stay in the village. Shekhar then forcibly sends him to city and asks him to stay in his best friend Murthy’s (Srinivasamurthy) house to find himself a good job.

Venky lands in the house right at the right moment - the engagement of Murthy’s daughter Gowri (Ramya).

Murthy gets a job for Venky. After some initial quarrels, Venky and Gowri become friends. Gowri who is already engaged to an NRI falls in love with Venky.

This is a family entertainer. There are no gimmicks, no double meaning dialogues and no fights. Comedy sequences run throughout the film.

Upendra’s role may give him a different image. Ramya’s performance is good. Sai Sathish has handled the camera.

S A Rajkumar has composed the music. Dialogues by Upendra and Naganna are punchy.
