When in doubt, smear

That's the philosophy of today's GOP, and yesterday was a great example of that dynamic. Reeling from the amazing admission by John McCain that he doesn't even know how many homes he has, the McCain campaign, being Rove-trained attack dogs, looked like a pack of braying hounds that weren't quite sure where the fox was. They were running around, snarling and snapping their jaws in all sorts of different directions. They weren't really drawing blood, but it was fascinating to watch, and as they flailed around in their panic, they gave a good look at their top smear avenues.

Now, I counted as many as 8 different attacks: arugula, cling, "college professor"(!), Rezko, Ayers, $4 million income, "he's got a mansion, too," and, finally ... man, I can't even remember the last one. Oh, well.

Most of those are ridiculous name-calling, but there are two that are more "substantive," if the total lack of any real scandal can be called that. But they are the two which were made into ads: Rezko and Ayers. So we put up smear pages for them, so you can be armed to fight back with the truth.

Rezko

Ayers

Short version: they're both ridiculous smears. Barack Obama did have a relationship with Rezko, but he didn't get any help on buying his (one) house from him, which is the subject of that smear. And he barely knows William Ayers at all.

Frankly, if this (and Reverend Wright, of course) is all they've got, we can beat this back if we work hard enough. The smears are flimsy, but it's up to us to let people know they are flimsy. So fight back!
