Carly Rae Jepsen's favourite song of 2012 is ...

If you had two ears and a heart, "Call Me Maybe" was the biggest pop song of 2012. But what was Carly Rae Jepsen's favourite tune this year?

Call Me Maybe.

It was Billboard's song of the summer.

It was the song of the year to anyone with two ears and a heart.

And for Carly Rae Jepsen, it was the song of a career -- launching the Vancouver singer-songwriter to international fame, and setting her on a track that's included awards (AMAs, Grammy nominations) and as many viral video tributes as there are cat photos on the Internet. (Cookie Monster's spoof is her favourite, BTW.)

But what is Carly Rae Jepsen's favourite song of 2012?

Canada.com asked the 27-year-old just that when we found her backstage at MuchMusic's Big Jingle.

And we're going to say that Jepsen's pick -- Kimbra's "Settle Down" -- is a testament to "Call Me Maybe's" total domination of 2012. (Technically, the tune first arrived two years ago in Kimbra's native New Zealand; the record it appears on, Vows, was re-released in North America this past May.) But good pop is good pop.

What's Carly Rae Jepsen's favourite song of 2012? Take it away, CRJ:

"I was really in love with the Gotye song ‘Somebody that I Used to Know’ and that led me to Kimbra, the artist who's featured on the track, and she's now become one of my favourite New Zealand artists. I love all of her stuff. Vows, if you haven't heard it yet, is a great EP of hers, and my favourite track on that playlist is called Settle Down.

"I was like 'Who is this chick?' I researched her on YouTube originally, watched a few of her music videos, and I liked that she had a few flavours mixed together. She was a little Gaga-esque at moments, a little old-school jazz and a hint of musical theatre. I feel like she mines those three things and somehow makes it unique and different and somehow it jived. It just worked!

Canada.com: That song, Settle Down, and the other Kimbra music you've been listening to: Does it influence you when you write your own material?

"I think everything that you listen to has a -- without necessarily meaning it to -- has an influence on what you write and think and all sorts of things. Same with books you read and people you talk to. I won't say I'm going to write something like that, but what you listen to does probably have a bit of an effect on the stuff you're making."
