BWSSB initiates safety measures at open pits
DH News Service Bangalore:
Following reports about open pits published in this paper, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman S K Pattanayak has directed local officials to ensure safety measures at the project sites.

Directions have been issued to put up barricades or sand bags around pits and trenches dug up to either lay water and sewer lines or for some repair works. He has also asked officials to keep roads free of any construction materials used for civil works, BWSSB sources said.

Several motorists have reportedly been injured after falling into huge pits at Kammanahalli Main Road and at Nala Street in Ulsoor.

BWSSB had kept the pit open without any safety measures. As most of the trenches and pits dug by BWSSB is filled with water, both motorists and pedestrians fail to notice it, resulting in an accident.

Swung into action

Similar to the Kammanahalli Main Road pit, BWSSB has taken necessary precautionary measures near a pit on Nala Street in Ulsoor. Barricades and boards cautioning that work is under progress have been put up.
