Spurious liquor worth Rs 7 lakh destroyed

Officials of the excise department launched a joint operation on Saturday morning, in which they raided the houses in Betageri Settlement (Gandhinagar) and seized and later destroyed illicit liquor and chemicals worth Rs 7 lakh.

During the raid about 1,000 litres of spurious liquor and 60,000 litres of spurious chemicals were seized. These were destroyed immediately and also two liquor producing units were also destroyed.

Barrels of spurious liquor were hidden amongst the by-lanes and thorn bushes. As many as 42 such hidden barrels were destroyed. About 15 tubes filled with spurious liquor were also found and destroyed.

Excise DySP Radder, SI Ravi Kumar, Devraj, PCI Guru Mattur, SI Vijay Kumar, Sharanappa Hipparagi, Patil and about hundred other officials participated in the raid.

The officials also found liquor-containing barrels dug under the kitchen floor.

Many men fled their homes as soon as the officials began their operations. Some people also tried to oppose.

This is the biggest operation against spurious liquor in that was conducted in the settlement. One woman, Basamma (60) in whose house spirit was found has been taken into custody.
