PM calls on Surjeet at hospital
Noida (UP), pti:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday called on veteran CPM leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet at the Metro Hospital here where he is recuperating after a surgery.

The Prime Minister, who was with Mr Surjeet for about 15 minutes at the hospital, presented him with a bouquet of flowers and enquired about his health condition. He also enquired from doctors attending on him about Mr Surjeet’s health status.

Metro Group of Hospitals chairman Dr Purshotam Lal informed that on May 9 the 90 year-old Communist leader underwent a surgery to remove a tumour from his kidney. He was kept in the ICCU for two days and shifted to a room on May 11. His heart and lungs were functioning normally and he would be discharged in a week’s time.

Mr Surjeet was admitted to a hospital in Bangkok on April 29 after he fell ill due to diarrhoea on his way to Vietnam to attend a Communist Party conclave. He was later brought back here by his son and hospitalised.

Earlier on his arrival at the Noida stadium by helicopter, the Prime Minister was received by UP Basic Education Minister Kiran Pal Singh.

As per protocol the Chief Minister usually greets the Prime Minister on his arrival in a state, but due to a jinx attached with Noida no UP Chief Minister visits the city for fear of losing his chair.
