In its first campus hiring ever, the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) has recruited a top-flight information security specialist. Intelligence sources, however, insist that the recruitment of Dr Trust Tshepo Mapoka is part of a DISS black-operation to hack into electronic voting machines during the 2019 general elections.

The Botswana Police Service ignored ominous warnings that presaged the helicopter accident that claimed the lives of three officers on board two years ago, a confidential report leaked to the Sunday Standard has revealed. The helicopter crash killed Superintendent Keokeditswe Sobatha, Assistant Superintendent Shepherd Ntobedzi and Inspector Ricardo Mabotho in 2014.

Having failed to secure bail, Mohammed Jakir Hossain Molla will remain locked up in prison as the minor he is alleged to have assaulted fights for his life in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Princess Marina Referral Hospital in Gaborone. Turning down the bail application, Acting Justice Kabelo Lebotse at the Lobatse High Court said that Molla, a Bangladesh national, was a flight risk.
