The Botswana Premier League (BPL) is set to get full autonomy from the Botswana Football Association (BFA). The announcement, which was made by the newly elected BFA President Maclean Letshwiti, will come as great news to the BPL which has always made it known that they want to be independent from the BFA.

This was said by Debswana Managing Director, Balisi Bonyongo when officially opening the BFA General assembly.

Bulgarian former chess champion and Grandmaster Marian Petrov arrived in Botswana this week on a mission to impart chess skills on the country’s chess stars. 

According to the Botswana Chess Federation (BCF), part of Petrov’s mission in the country will be to train and make assessment of both junior and senior players.

Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) had their hands full this past weekend as they held an elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) while also conducting the 2016 Mountain Bike National Championships on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The AGM was held at the National Stadium warm up area where Mmetla Masire retained the position president, a job he will have for the next 3 years.

Following uncertainties surrounding its staging this year due to ongoing negotiations between the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) and the sponsors, teams can now have a sigh of relief as the tournament seems to be back in the pipeline.

Botswana Badminton Association (BBA) instructor Thuso Mudongo became the country's first badminton coach to graduate with a Diploma in Sports Science after successfully completing a three-month Olympic Solidarity coaching course. The course was held in Budapest, Hungary from the 21st of March to the 10th of June this year.

The Confederation of Southern African School Sports Associations (COSASSA) Vice President Technical, Solomon Duiker, says Botswana is ready to host the games. 

Speaking to the media following the COSASSA delegation’s tour of facilities where the games will be staged, Duiker said he was happy with the facilities.

Botswana's Olympic new entrant Gavin Mogopa was reduced to a mere spectator after suffering a shock first round defeat in the men's Olympic Judo on Saturday in Brazil's capital Rio de Jeneiro.

Mogopa, who is under the guidance of Sensei Kingsley Segokotlo, made history by becoming the first Motswana Judoka to qualify for summer Olympics.
