The Sunday Standard newspaper Editor, Outsa Mokone, was on Friday morning granted bail by the Broadhurst Magistrate Court in a case in which he is accused of publishing a seditious story contrary to section 51 (1) (c) as read with section 50 (1) of the penal code (Cap 08:01) Laws of Botswana and the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.

Gaborone High Court Judge, Justice Zein Kebonang on Friday issued a warrant of arrest against the Commander of Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Major General Placid Segokgo after he was found to be in contempt of court for failure to comply with a judgment to reinstate two BDF officers who were dismissed from work.

The tabling of the Freedom of Information Bill in parliament will not be done anytime soon as the government is still busy drafting another “important” law to be known as the Data Protection. 

A junior minister at the Office of the President, Thato Kwerepe said Monday that both the Freedom of Information Bill and the Data Protection Bill are still being discussed.

MAUN – Atleast 20 of the 22 squatter families at Maun’s Sedie ward have been evicted from their illegal structures by the Tawana Land Board (TLB) on Friday. Amongst those evicted were orphans, most of who claimed their parents had illegally occupied the land which they had stayed in since birth.

Government has been caught pants down trying to steal the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) from farmers and giving it to Israeli and Kuwait investors.

The BMC was created by an Act of Parliament as a farmers’ cooperative.

The Minister of Agriculture, Patrick Ralotsia, has however gone behind the back of farmers to negotiate with Israelis and Kuwaits to invest in BMC.
