Botswana Premier League (BPL) has expressed concern that Gilport Lions’ failure to honor games might have negative impact on the league, its sponsors and other stakeholders. 

The concerns come as Lions has, for a second time this season, failed to honour a league fixture.

Botswana National Under 20 boys football team coach George Mogopodi has called for his team to be kept together as a unit to help ease their transition to the Under 23 national team.

Mogopodi’s call came after he witnessed his team give their most spirited performance despite succumbing to a 1 – 0 defeat at the hands of neighbours South Africa

Tati Sporting Club (TASC)’s Head Coach, Onalenna Kgomela, is optimistic his side will survive relegation from the Debswana First Division North League (DFDNL).

The erstwhile Francistown football powerhouse is languishing at the bottom of the DFDNL log and yet to win a game from the ten matches they have played so far this season.

The Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) will next year up the ante in their efforts to professionalise local cricket. 

BCA have intentions to stipulate a minimum of 100 overs of play each day which will comprise of three sessions of 2hr:15min. The idea is to conceptualise the need to play longer which is the international trend in cricket.

The Botswana Premier league Chief Executive Officer’s (BPL CEO), Bennet Mamelodi, will know his fate tomorrow when the Botswana Football Association National Executive Committee (BFA NEC) makes its final verdict.  

Mamelodi was suspended on allegations of maladministration and was to pave the way for a forensic audit to take place without his interference.

The dispute between Botswana Football Association (BFA) and former national under 23 gaffer Keitumetse “Pio” Paul will be resolved soon the two parties have reached an out of court settlement Sunday Standard has established.

The long-running dispute emanates from Paul’s litigation efforts of defamation and unpaid entitlements by the BFA after he was sacked some 18 months ago.

It was during an interview with one local radio station when Gaborone United (GU) coach Rodolfo Zapata said his team “plays football while others play soccer”. 

For many, these utterances were a viewed as a slight on other teams by the Argentinian coach.  As GU struggled through the first few games this season, Zapata’s utterances became a butt of many a jokes.

The official resignation brings to an end several weeks of uncertainty over the future of Dube at the BAA.

Botswana Amateur Fencing Federation (BAFF)’s sport development initiative has received a boost with an addition of two more qualified fencing masters.

 This follows the recent graduation of Sam Chape and Aobakwe Modise, who are now Fencing Masters.

The two join Karabo Thobega in the category, increasing the number of master fencers at BAFF to three.

Botswana Kofukan Federation (BKF) team is the champions of the 2016 Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) National Club championships.

This follows their massive dominance of the BOKA tournament which was staged at Molapo Crossing hall in Gaborone on Saturday.

Teams at the champions competed both team Kata and kumite in different age categories.

Titans Softball Club ladies ruled the National Diamond like Greek mythological gods they are named after this past weekend as they won their games to move up the league log.

A day after convincingly beating Bears 8–3, Titans were at it again on Sunday as they overwhelmed UB Giants 13–1 in a lopsided game.

The Botswana Football Association President, Maclean Letshwiti, has encouraged national leagues to run professionally and be business minded. 

Letshwiti said this at the  opening of a two-day FIFA professional course. The course is attended by premier league team and first division officials.

Botswana’s priviledge of hosting the FIFA Development Office (FDO) is coming to an end at the end of this year.  The FIFA office will be relocating from Gaborone to Johannesburg, South Africa.

This was revealed by FIFA development officer, Ashford Mamelodi in a press statement.

While the period is usually used by a new leader to acclimatise to his or her new environment, this was however not the case with the BFA President. For Letshwiti, the honeymoon was over as soon as he finished his “I Do” acceptance speech.

Botswana Football Association (BFA)’s Lekidi corridors will not be used to fight team or politically motivated rivalries. Those are the words of the associations’ president Maclean Letshwiti.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Standard, Letshwiti said in his administration, all teams would be treated equally and justice disbursed expeditiously.

The town of Selibe Phikwe appears to be destined for more miseries after the closure of the BCL mine recently as the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has not included the Phikwe Marathon in their calendar of events due to the irregularities that happened during and after the event.
